Europan 11. Contemporary Landscapes
The project recycles the terrains of the old landfill of Oslo. Located besides Marka forest, can be a new platform of natural, synthetic, social, and educative landscapes. One of the main targets is to give to Gronmo a new identity. Till now the site was associated with garbage, now through recycling, garbage is transformed in a energy source- methane gas production- but also in a new world in terms of landscape: synthetic natures emerge to enrich the pleasure of an hybrid environment in between the natural realm and its manipulations.
Two events conform this new identity and use: the “red spine”- configured by deciduous trees that change their colour along the year on the background of the existing forest of perennial trees; and the “nocturnal nature” of the place. To achieve this without interfering with the existing gas infrastructure, an additional terrain spine- or lineal mound- of two meters high is added. In this way the plantation of trees is possible avoiding the roots touching the infrastructural level. The spine, at the same time, will delimitate diverse gardens and parks, creating different scenes able to build the new atmospheric and energetic sequence on site.
